Of runaway horses, photography and obstinate chickens...

So, we went out to the big city of Bangor! We had a few errands to run, one of which included stopping at the library. I want to start learning more about photography, so I picked up a couple books there. It was overall pretty uneventful.

When we got back, I went outside to close in my three chickens. They're supposed to go inside their little red coop at night. However, they've all gotten into the habit of roosting in the barn at night. Unless we catch them before they roost, we have had the need to catch and relocate them to their proper sleeping quarters.

Well, tonight was such a night. They were all trying to get away with sleeping in the barn for the night. The barn broom was an excellent discouragement to their attempt to at being contrary. The solution to them getting back in again was to simply shut the stall door where they entered every night.

They knew the only place we really allowed the to roost in at night was the little red coop. So the little trio made their way over. After much turmoil and confusion they made their way into their coop. Poquito the rooster was first (he's usually pretty inclined on settling in his proper nightly abode), Chickie was next (she will often follow Poquito's example), and Brownie was last (she never wants to go where I want her to go!). Hopefully they'll start doing this every night without starting in the barn!

To make things more exciting, one of our neighbor's horses had gotten lose as they were trying to put it into their trailer, and he came galloping up the driveway and into the barnyard. But the neighbors came over soon after and retrieved their runaway.

Can't say there's ever a dull moment here in Green Gambrels! :-)
